A brand says yes, the content goes live, and then the agency's finance team asks for your invoice, your licence and sometimes your TRN. This guide covers what a creator in the UAE needs to invoice properly, as the rules stand in October 2026. Tax rules change and depend on your situation, so treat this as a map and check the details with the Federal Tax Authority or an accountant.
Step 1: Be allowed to invoice
To invoice for paid work in the UAE you need a trade licence or a freelance permit that covers it. You also need one to get the advertiser permit, which has been required since 1 February 2026 for anyone posting ads from the UAE. The common routes:
- GoFreelance in Dubai lists social media influencer and content provider as media activities. Its site gives AED 7,500 a year for the permit and co-working access, with a residence visa extra.
- twofour54 in Abu Dhabi has a freelance permit with a residence visa, and Abu Dhabi has required influencers to hold a trade licence since 2024.
- Sharjah's Shams media free zone offers freelance licences too. Prices change, so check the official tariff.
- Creators endorsed by Dubai's Creators HQ can apply for a Golden Visa in the content creators category.
The advertiser permit itself is issued by the National Media Authority, applied for online with UAE Pass, and free for the first three years for citizens and residents.
Step 2: Know which side of the VAT line you are on
VAT registration is mandatory once your taxable sales pass AED 375,000 in the past 12 months, or will in the next 30 days. You may register voluntarily from AED 187,500. Below the line, you send an invoice with no VAT on it, and you must not call it a tax invoice.
In Wiro's free invoice generator, answer No to VAT registered in the UAE and it makes a plain invoice with no tax on it; the TRN fields switch off. Answer Yes and it becomes a tax invoice with your TRN and 5% VAT.

Once registered, a full tax invoice must show the words Tax Invoice, your name, address and TRN, the client's TRN if they are registered, a sequential number, the date, each line with its price, the VAT and the total in AED, and you must issue it within 14 days of the supply. Invoicing a brand outside the UAE may be zero-rated as an export of services, but there are conditions, so check before you leave the VAT off.
Step 3: Put the deal on the invoice
An agency's finance team pays what it can match to a purchase order and a brief. Describe the work the way the brief did: the campaign, the deliverables, and the usage you agreed. Use the details lines for scope: the usage period and the number of revisions.

- Your name or business name, address and contact details, exactly as on your licence.
- The client's company name and address, and the person who booked you.
- A unique invoice number, the issue date, the due date and the payment terms.
- The purchase order number, if the agency gave you one.
Step 4: Make it easy to pay
Put your bank name, account name, account number and IBAN on the invoice, and a payment link if you take card payments. Set the payment terms you agreed, for example net 30, so the due date prints on the invoice and there is no question later about when it was due.

Step 5: Corporate tax and e-invoicing
- Corporate tax applies to an individual once turnover from their UAE business passes AED 1 million in a calendar year. You then register by 31 March of the following year; missing it carries a fixed AED 10,000 penalty.
- The rate is 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above it. Small Business Relief, for revenue of AED 3 million or less, now runs to tax periods ending by 31 December 2029, but you still have to register and choose it on your return.
- E-invoicing covers everyone doing business in the UAE, individuals included, unless they are excluded, and the list of exclusions had not been published by late September 2026. For businesses under AED 50 million it goes live on 1 July 2027, with a service provider to appoint by 31 March 2027. Watch this one.
Step 6: When payment is late
Send a polite reminder on the due date, with the invoice attached, then a firmer one a week later. If a fixed, agreed amount is still unpaid, UAE law lets you apply to the courts for a payment order, after giving at least five days' written notice. Most late payments are fixed long before that by a clear invoice that matched the brief and arrived on time.
The invoice that gets paid first is the one finance can match to the brief without asking anyone.
