Link preview checker
See how your link will look when it is shared on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Slack and iMessage, before a client or a follower does. It checks the tags and the share image, and gives you the fix. Free, no sign-up.
What the apps read
When a link is shared, each app sends a bot to the page and reads a few tags from its head. The Open Graph tags decide the title, the description and the picture; X also reads its own card tag. When a tag is missing, the app guesses, and the guess is rarely what you would have chosen.
| Tag | What it sets |
|---|---|
| og:title | The headline of the card |
| og:description | The line of text under it |
| og:image | The picture: 1200 × 630, a full link, under 600 KB |
| og:url | The page's own address: shares are counted against it, and WhatsApp asks for it |
| og:site_name | The brand name some apps show above the title |
| twitter:card | summary_large_image for X's big picture card |
After you fix the tags
Apps keep their copy of a link’s preview. Ask for a fresh read with Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector; Slack refreshes within about half an hour, and the others on their own schedule. Posts already published keep the preview they went out with.
A preview people click
- Write the title for sharing, not search. og:title can be warmer and shorter than the page title.
- Make the image say it. One idea, big type, the brand. Most people see the picture and nothing else.
- Keep the image light. WhatsApp asks for under 600 KB; a few hundred KB loads everywhere.
- Check before the campaign goes out, not after the first client forwards the link.

Why does my link show no picture on WhatsApp?
Usually one of these: the page has no og:image tag, the image link is not a full address, the image is 600 KB or more, or it is narrower than 300 pixels. Those are WhatsApp's own rules, along with og:title, og:description and og:url in the page's head, within the first 300 KB of the page.
I fixed the tags. Why does the old preview still show?
Apps keep their own copy of a link's preview. Facebook's Sharing Debugger (Scrape Again) and LinkedIn's Post Inspector ask for a fresh read of the page; Facebook also keeps images by their address, so give a changed image a new file name. Posts already published keep the preview they went out with.
What size should a share image be?
1200 × 630 pixels, about 1.91 to 1, as a JPG or PNG under 600 KB. That fills Facebook's large card, meets LinkedIn's 1200 × 627 minimum and WhatsApp's size limit, and X crops it only slightly to 2 to 1. Keep text and logos away from the edges.
Does it follow robots.txt?
Yes. The checker reads the page once, as WiroReachBot, and not at all if the site's robots.txt asks bots not to. It only reads the image's size from its headers; your browser draws the picture.
Is anything saved?
A check is kept in memory for ten minutes so pasting the same link again is instant, then forgotten. Nothing is stored against you.
